Book title: Losing Ground: The Displacement of San Gorgonio Pass Cahuilla People in the 19th Century
Author: Louis Doody, resident of Hawaii and Betty Meltzer, resident of Cherry Valley, CA
Description: What was San Gorgonio Pass really like in the 19th century? Was it a place where stalwart American settlers staked out their claim to the American Dream in an empty wilderness by sheer grit? Was it like one of those Hollywood sets, with rumbling stagecoaches, hostile Indians, cattle rustlers, school marms, quaking sheriffs and the usual swift justice at the end of a rope? Losing Ground dispels these cinematic clichés and brings to light a past that has all but remained secret.

Rock Climbing Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree coffee mug.

The Joshua Tree Mug is by far our most notable seller up in these parts.  If you’ve ever visited the area, and appreciate its unique beauty, it’s hard to resist the iconic Dr. Seuss-esque image!  Two different trees of several offered (actual photographs taken by us) are depicted on either side.

The transfer is fired into, and is a part of the clay body.  It will not wear off.   Different tree on either side.  Pictured, and offered only in Robin’s Egg glaze.

Measures approximately 5″ x 3.5″.   Our mugs tend to run large (14-16 oz.) and our customers say they are delightfully light weight.  Handles are especially ergonomic!

All MazAmar pottery can go in the microwave, dishwasher and oven and is certified food-safe.

Please note:  as everything is hand-made, there may be some slight variation as to size, color and shape from that shown.  That being said, we do our best to keep things as consistent as possible.

Pottery plate

The Shepherd’s Race Labyrinth plate can be used to hold fruit or catch your keys or simply to stand on its own awaiting a meditator to ‘walk’ the raised path with a finger.  The labyrinth is said to represent the pilgrim’s journey (within) and the subsequent return to ordinary life with the gifts found along the Way.  In this particular design, the Robin’s Egg glaze has been rubbed off, before firing, revealing the red clay on the higher areas giving a warm glow to the piece and an inviting textural experience.  Footed and measures approximately 10.5″ wide x 1.5″ tall.
